Health

Always in the best of health

Among many other factors, health and well-being are key when it comes to the performance and motivation of a competition horse. Therefore, the health of each and every horse at Hesselhof is monitored comprehensively and continually by our veterinarian Dr. med. vet. Eva Rash, in cooperation with renowned colleagues and equine hospitals.

1. Pre-purchase examination:
Each horse that comes to Hesselhof undergoes a pre-purchase examination that goes far beyond the usual scope.

2. Physiotherapy:
Sandra Lotz, in charge of stable management at Hesselhof, is a qualified animal physiotherapist and is therefore able to take professional care of the health and well-being of the horses by giving massage and lymph drainage as and where necessary.

3. Acupuncture:
To maintain their physical and mental balance, our horses undergo regular acupuncture treatment by Dr. med. vet. Jean-Yves Guray, official specialist for the competition horses at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Sydney.

4. Chiropractic treatment:
The horses at Hesselhof are given chiropractic treatment by Dr. med. vet. Eva Rash, who studied at Munich's Ludwig-Maximilian University and also took her doctorate there. In 2008 she completed her supplementary training in equestrian chiropractic at the IAVC (International Academy for Veterinary Chiropractic) in Sittensen.

Chiropractic treatment is an effective form of prophylactic therapy for maintaining the health of horses. It is able to prevent clinical problems that might occur without such treatment. Chiropractic treats not the symptoms but rather the causes, e.g. of back problems. It is able to restore both the suppleness of joints as well as the strength of the spinal column, and thus enables the horses to achieve their full potential.

By engaging daily with the horses and being in close touch with trainer Ralph-Michael Rash and the riders, Dr. Rash is able to acquire a detailed impression of the locomotor system and the movements of the individual horses, both at rest and at work. As a result, individually targeted and supporting chiropractic treatment can be provided at any time, resulting in a tangible improvement in the horse's performance.
